Implementing Weight Management Programs
The epidemic is here. Due to an increasingly sedentary population and a “super-size” mentality, Americans are becoming fatter and fatter. Now, for the first time, the majority of Americans are overweight; obesity is a health risk on a par with cigarette smoking. American youth are at risk for heart disease and diabetes at an early age.

Because of the changing demographics and increased media coverage, many Americans are requesting advice from Fitness and Dietetic Professionals on how to merge good eating habits with good exercise habits. This is why more and more Registered Dietitians and Fitness Professionals are starting to specialize in Weight Management. Our special program will teach you what you need to know to integrate sound exercise programming with healthy eating habits. This program will allow you to focus your time and energy on this growing market while increasing and enhancing your professional credibility and marketability.

Our in-depth, two-day program consists of eight two-hour courses and is designed to prepare you to work with the overweight or obese child and adult. You can take the entire weekend, or just choose the courses that fit your schedule and interests. Each workshop is $29, or you can take the full program (eight workshops) for only $199. You'll learn programming based on your clients' goals and abilities, as well as how to work with the obese child, clients with chronic diseases such as diabetes or heart disease, health screening and much more! Assessing the Overweight Client
Saturday - 8:30 am - 10:30 am
Using exercise science as a foundation, this class will teach you how to determine if your heavy client needs to be evaluated by a physician prior to beginning an exercise program. You'll learn how to administer user-friendly health history and quality of life assessments for the heavy client as you also determine whether your client is committed to making the necessary lifestyle changes to achieve and maintain weight loss.

Exercise, Diabetes & Heart Disease
Saturday - 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
This riveting course will explore the relationship between obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Discover how high triglycerdides and cholesterol increase the risk for both diabetes and heart disease and how diet and exercise affect these risk factors. You'll also learn current exercise guidelines for the at-risk client who has been cleared to exercise by their physician, including how to evaluate blood pressure and blood sugar levels before, during and after exercise.

Analyzing Popular Diets
Saturday - 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Who has time to read all the many diet books that are available? We do! This fast paced class evaluates the most popular and controversial books that your clients are reading and evaluates them based on science, research and the authors' credentials. You'll explore old favorites such as "Volumetrics," "The South Beach Diet," "Atkins" and "The Zone." You'll also get acquainted with new best-sellers such as "The Perricone Prescription," "The Macrobiotic Way," "Eat, Drink and be Healthy," "The Raw Foods Diet" and more -- in all, over a dozen of the most timely weight loss books and programs available today.

Facilitating Lifestyle & Behavioral Changes
Saturday - 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
This program will teach you step by step how to put it all together! It's a fascinating approach that will allow you to really understand the decisions your client makes and the "scripts" that can sabotage your client’s results. You'll discover how well-meaning friends and family can hinder your client’s attempts to make long-term behavioral changes. You'll investigate the cultural, emotional and psychological roots of poor eating behaviors and grasp why, since the dawn of human history, eating has always been about more than nutrition.

Women, Exercise & Metabolism
Sunday - 8:30 am - 10:30 am
You know the pattern: Women are so desperate to lose weight that they over-exercise while simultaneously starving themselves. And then they wonder why they can’t lose weight! Often, the female exerciser is unaware of the effect of metabolism on her weight loss. This cutting edge workshop will show you how to make diet, exercise and metabolism work together for lasting weight loss. You may also be surprised when you learn that for many females, once they begin an exercise program they may need to eat more to weigh less.

Please Pass the Sugar
Sunday - 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Humans are hardwired to crave sweets and this electrifying class explores the effect of the human sweet tooth on weight management. This course will explore the biological roots of our need for sweets and then explore modern trends. You'll discover the perils of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and learn whether or not Aspartame REALLY causes brain cancer. You'll get the buzz on honey and the research on stevia. You'll also compare and contrast the pros and cons of popular sweteners such as Equal, Splenda and Sweet & Low. This fascinating class should be a "must-take" for anyone who is working with heavy clients!

Exercise for Obese Children & Adults

It is no surprise that most overweight children become obese adults; this is part of the reason why the majority of Americans are now overweight or obese. As the incidence of childhood obesity skyrockets, the risk for obesity-related diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and even Alzheimer's increases in the adult and young-adult population. This fascinating course will help you discover real-world methods to integrate activity into your client's lifestyle for long-term weight management.

Healthy Eating for the Obese Client
Sunday - 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
The average overweight American eats out almost 9 times per week, and fully 20% of all meals are consumed in the car. Understanding your client's eating habits is vital to helping them control their weight. This engaging class will teach you how to help your client make wise dietary choices. You'll learn about the effect of eating out on the American waistline and how to teach your client to make educated decisions when in a restaurant. This important class will help your client to better understand how to make wise decisions when eating out, taking out or pigging out!
