Older Adult Program
Demographic
research tells us that American society is aging rapidly and older Americans
are embracing health and fitness like never before. This is why more and
more fitness professionals are starting to specialize in fitness for the
older adult. Our special program will help you to focus your time and
energy on this market while increasing and enhancing your professional
credibility and marketability.
Our in-depth,
two-day program consists of eight two-hour courses and is designed to
prepare you to work with the older adult client. Each workshop is $29,
or you can take the full program (eight workshops) for $199. You'll
learn programming based on your clients' goals and abilities, as well
as functional fitness, cardiovascular modifications, balance drills and

| # 01 Functional Testing & Evaluation | Saturday - 8:30 am - 10:30 am This interactive program will teach you specific assessments for the older client. You’ll learn age-appropriate tests for strength, flexibility and cardio capacity, as well as tips for how to conduct a health history session and initial interview.
| | # 02 Designing Chair Exercise Programs | Saturday - 10:30 am - 12:30 pm Chair exercise programs are a growing fitness trend! Discover the variety of options you have for a client who is frail, ill, has impaired balance or may be in a wheelchair and is not able to participate in traditional exercise programs. You will learn how to design programs for chair cardio, chair flexibility, chair strength training....even chair yoga!
| | # 03 Exercise & Chronic Disease | Saturday - 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm This important class will concentrate on exercise modifications for the diseases common to old age. You’ll learn exercise modalities appropriate for clients with heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's. You’ll leave this class more confident of your abilities to train the older client with a chronic condition.
| | # 04 Balance & Fall Prevention | Saturday - 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm If you work with seniors, you need this class! Discover how to design fun, interactive fall prevention programs that will strengthen your client psychologically as well as physically. You’ll learn techniques that can be done while sitting , standing or walking. Whether you are train one-on-one or in a group, you’ll love this program!
| | # 05 Exercise, Osteoporosis & Arthritis | Sunday - 8:30 am - 10:30 am As Baby Boomer continue to age, the rates of osteoporosis are sure to increase. This timely workshop explores the risk factors for osteoporosis and then gives specific exercise do's and don'ts for the client with osteoporsis who has been cleared to exercise by their doctor. You'll also learn programming guidelines for clients with osteopenia, as well as how to develop a program for the arthritic client.
| | # 06 Designing Functional Strength Programs | Sunday - 10:30 am - 12:30 pm If you are not confident taking your client into the weight room, fear no more! This course will teach you how to safely modify the strength training program for the older client. You’ll explore both traditional and non-traditional exercise techniques for older clients from all health and fitness backgrounds.
| | # 07 Exercise After Hip or Knee Replacement | Sunday - 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm This fascinating program will teach you exercise do's and don'ts for clients who have had joint replacement and finished physical therapy and are approved to exercise in a non-clinical environment. If you have ever wondered whether or not a specific exercise was appropriate for these clients, this class is for you!
| | # 08 Designing Active Flexibility Programs | Sunday - 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm This interactive workshop will teach you how to safely evaluate your client’s active range of motion. Discover how to modify a flexibility routine for your older client while you learn stretches appropriate for some of the most common concerns of the older client, such as poor posture, tight hamstrings, restricted shoulder range of motion…even sciatica!.
